We help clients make sense of their data and explore new data sources where necessary - for interactive data tools, dashboards and data-driven research. Below you can find a selection of our data analytics projects.
For the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence, CPC Analytics worked with the WHO mpox team to accelerate the analysis and communication of data during the 2022 mpox multi-country outbreak. Our services spanned the entire analytics value chain, including data engineering, producing an interactive dashboard, conducting ad-hoc analyses, and authoring two academic journal articles (The Lancet, US CDC).

In collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), CPC Analytics conducted a bibliometric analysis of academic publications on alcohol consumption, governance, harm, and control policies from 2010 to 2021. The analysis found that most research was conducted in high-income countries (HICs) by authors from these regions, with a predominant focus on alcohol consumption rather than its determinants. These findings highlight a need for more studies in lower-income and middle-income countries to better inform alcohol control policies. The resulting journal manuscript was published by BMJ in August 2022.

CPC Analytics provided data analysis services to German development and humanitarian NGOs, focusing on the analysis of Germany's official development assistance (ODA) across the full spectrum of development cooperation sectors. We modeled a roadmap for sector-specific Official Development Assistance in close collaboration with the client, resulting in a comprehensive policy paper. This paper was published as an official VENRO study and presented to the newly elected Members of the Bundestag in 2021. An updated version was created and released in early 2023.

A team of CPC Analytics data scientists supported the WHO Country Office in Ukraine in their assessment of the impact of extreme weather during winter amidst ongoing armed conflict in the country. This involved both data identification and stewardship as well as the support in the methodological development of a multidimensional composite risk score. CPC Analytics' work was conducted within a team of the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence and resulted in a published report.

For Pune City, we helped set up a Public Health Intelligence Hub - a first in India. This Hub will help monitor local population’s health, assess health threats quickly, and guide local level interventions and make decision-making more evidence-driven. The analytical intelligence component of the Hub, will enable better preparedness, better planning, and faster responses to health events.

During the German G7 Presidency, CPC Analytics supported the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence in its collaboration with the German Ministry of Health. We co-developed a pandemic simulation exercise alongside the WHO Hub and the German Ministry of Health, which was successfully conducted with G7 health ministers at their meeting in May 2022. Following this, we worked with German partners on the Pact for Pandemic Readiness, adopted in autumn 2022. A key achievement of this initiative was its alignment around Collaborative Surveillance, a core concept of WHO for strengthening the global architecture for health emergency preparedness, response, and resilience.

CPC Analytics provided policy analysis and consulting for the “Informal Expert Group on the EU’s Role in Global Health” established under the Finnish EU Presidency in 2019. Our work involved preparing, participating in, and synthesizing the sessions to inform the development of a new Global Health Strategy, announced by the European Commission (EC) in 2022 during the French Presidency and followed up with a Communication by the EC. In 2020, we published the policy paper "Towards a Synergistic Global Health Strategy in the EU”. In 2021, under the Slovenian Presidency, CPC Analytics authored a paper on “The EU’s Global Action in Support of UHC in Time of the Pandemic and Beyond".

CPC Analytics was commissioned by the Bertelsmann Stiftung to investigate the potential benefits of a closer data exchange collaboration between India and Europe for AI development. Our study explored the Indian AI landscape, Germany’s need for larger data pools, and the requirements for successful cooperation. Through over 30 expert interviews with AI practitioners, policymakers, and researchers across sectors such as health, e-commerce, and manufacturing, we found promising long-term prospects. The analysis included Crunchbase company data and public AI indicators, providing a comprehensive indicator-driven and text analytics approach. The published study outlines these findings and recommendations for fostering collaboration.

CPC Analytics has played a key role in conceptualizing and organizing the flagship, public-facing Speaker Series and community-driven Innovation Forum of the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence. We led the organization of six high-level, hybrid Speaker Series events, carefully curating topics, speakers, and contributions to reflect the diverse, multi-disciplinary, and complex nature of pandemic and epidemic intelligence. The Speaker Series “Complexity of Pandemics” events stimulated innovative thinking and attracted over 650 on-site guests and over 19,600 online viewers (and counting). All events are available through a playlist on the official WHO YouTube channel. Additionally, CPC Analytics conceptualized and organized the sessions of the Innovation Forum, a collaborative group of international experts from around 45 organizations focused on epidemic and pandemic intelligence initiatives. Within a year, the community tripled in size with our support. We also co-authored and published reports (1st session report, 2nd session report) highlighting each session's main points, further contributing to the Hub's knowledge dissemination and engagement efforts.

The joint Lancet and Financial Times Commission titled Growing up in a digital world: Governing health futures 2030 explored the convergence of digital health, artificial intelligence (AI), and other frontier technologies with universal health coverage (UHC) to support attainment of the third Sustainable Development Goal (SDG). CPC Analytics supported the Commission with policy research and data analysis over the two years of its research period from Octobre 2019 to December 2021 and contributed significantly to the report. It was publicly presented at the World Health Summit in Berlin on 25 October.

The German Network against Neglected Tropical Diseases commissioned CPC Analytics to conduct a study on the status quo as well as future opportunities and drawbacks of an integrated strategy to combat neglected diseases. For that purpose, CPC Analytics 1) conducted expert interviews with NGOs, firms, and implementation agencies, 2) identified and analyzed relevant development assistance projects through the BMZ’s database, and 3) wrote a report on the findings. The study was eventually presented and discussed in various fora.

Based on a working paper commissioned by the World Health Organization, CPC Analytics examined and conceptualized ‘commercial determinants of health’ as a unifying concept to capture and illustrate the dynamics between social processes, the power of the economic actors, and health. The findings and the concept were integrated into a peer-reviewed article in the Lancet. Link to the Study

As part of CPC Analytics’ work for the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence, a CPC consultant worked with a team at WHO on the technical coordination and qualitative analysis for the Research Prioritization Exercise. This collaborative effort, involving surveys and consultations with an international, multi-disciplinary and multi sectoral group of international experts, identified key research priorities to enhance surveillance and decision-making during global health emergencies. The resulting Technical Brief, published by the WHO Hub, outlines the prioritization process and identified research priorities, aiming to stimulate innovation, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and improve global responses to epidemic and pandemic threats.
